About the Candidate
Meet Larry Weintraub
A physicist, a coach, and a West Orange dad who has spent two years doing the work to protect our schools.

Larry's story
Lawrence (Larry) Weintraub has lived in West Orange since 2018 with his wife, Dayna, and their two boys. Larry is a physicist who currently does research on using machine learning techniques to improve wireless communication, and has previous experience in radar imaging and radio astronomy.
West Orange is a unique place in Essex County, bringing together many communities as one town. Larry has supported that vision as a baseball and basketball coach for Mountaintop League, and as a parent with West Orange United soccer, PAL baseball and Roosevelt and WOHS baseball.
The West Orange Public Schools have been an example of what a community can do when we support the needs and growth of all our residents together. Larry has been active over the past two years working to ensure that children continue to get that support in the face of shrinking resources and rising costs.
Larry has met with state legislators, the NJ Department of Education and representatives of Gov. Sherrill’s office to discuss education funding policy. He has connected with activists from all over NJ to find common ground for a fair and effective way of funding our schools and ensuring every student in NJ receives a quality education. Larry has created a computer model of the School Funding Reform Act, which legislators have used to evaluate policy options to improve school funding legislation.
Larry is looking to serve on the West Orange Board of Education to bring our town together and ensure our children receive the high quality education we owe them.
“When we fight, our town’s children lose. Our kids deserve a plan.”
