The core fiscal issue is how Trenton funds our schools. Larry has led West Orange Parents for Education (WOPE) in pushing the state to fix a formula that overburdens local homeowners.
The core fiscal issue lies in how Trenton supports our schools. The state distributes income tax revenues to school districts in a manner that fails to properly account for local property tax capacity. This places an undue burden on homeowners, leaving many feeling that our tax dollars aren’t delivering the value we deserve. This must change.
Larry has been a leader of the West Orange Parents for Education (WOPE) in pushing our state government to address these problems. WOPE has met with Asw. Rosy Bagolie and Sen. John McKeon to push for solutions. Together with WOPE, Larry traveled to Trenton to meet with Assemblywoman Bagolie, representatives of the NJDOE, including the commissioner’s chief of staff and representatives of Gov. Sherrill’s office to share ideas for reform and to emphasize the urgency of immediate action. As a member of the WOBOE, Larry will continue this work, and lead the community in demanding our state government address the pain our schools are experiencing.
